Sad News and Support for our Community

Evening Families,

It is with great sadness that we share, with the family’s permission, that one of our staff members, Sue Haikings, has passed away. Sue had been part of our school community for over 15 years made a meaningful impact on many students, especially those learning English as an additional language (EAL), providing support and encouragement that helped them thrive.

We extend our deepest condolences to her family and all who knew her.

Supports will be available for students at school tomorrow, including our School Counsellors, School Psychologist, and other staff members. We recognize the importance of talking and connecting during times of grief, and we want to assure you that any student who needs support will be able to access it.

For additional support outside of school, children and youth can contact Kids Help Phone at 1-800-668-6868 (toll-free) or text CONNECT to 686868. Support is available 24/7, or you can visit the Kids Help Phone website for online chat and resources.

If you have any questions, concerns, or feel your child may need additional support at school, please reach out. We will also be checking in with Sue’s students to ensure they are supported.

Please take care of yourselves and each other during this difficult time.

Rachael, Abby and Andrew
