Report Cards and Progress Conversations

Afternoon Families,

Report Cards

Report cards will be sent home on December 3rd. Ahead of receiving them, we wanted to share an important update about changes to the report card format for students in Grades Primary to 2.

In September 2024, Nova Scotia introduced an updated Language Arts curriculum for Grades Primary to 2. The new curriculum is organized into three main areas, called strands:

  • Foundations of Language – phonics, spelling, and word knowledge
  • Comprehension – understanding what is read or heard
  • Composition – expressing ideas through speaking and writing

These strands work together to help students become confident and capable readers, writers, and communicators.

Beginning in November 2025, report cards for Grades Primary to 2 will reflect these updated strands:

  • Strand A: Foundations of Language
  • Strand B: Comprehension
  • Strand C: Composition

What this means for families:

  • Grade Primary: Because grades are not reported at this level, the strand names will not appear on the report card.
  • Grades 1–2: The updated strand names will now appear on your child’s report card.

Progress Conversations

In addition, on December 4th, we will be holding Progress Conversations to discuss each student’s progress to date. Meetings will take place from 1:00–3:00 p.m. and 5:00–7:00 p.m.

Grades P–6: Families will use an online sign-up system to book a time.  The portal for booking will open to families on Friday, November 28th at noon.

Please use the following information to schedule your appointment:

Appointment times are 10 minutes. If you require additional time, please arrange a separate meeting with your child’s teacher outside of this date.

  • Grades 7–9: Teachers will continue to meet with families in the gym, as per usual practice. No online booking is required. Appointment times are 10 minutes. If you require additional time, please arrange a separate meeting with your child’s teacher outside of this date.

If you have any questions about the report card changes or the Progress Conversations, please feel free to reach out. We look forward to seeing you next week.
