What's Happening @PW - September 10

What’s happening at Park West School – September 10

  1. Being on time: Thank you again for a smooth opening.  We appreciate families parking on the street and walking their children up to the school.  We remind families that all students should be at school by 8:10.  We have gone from only 6 late students on the first day to over 30 today.

  1. Safe Arrival – 902-457-7800 ex1: Student safety is our number one priority. If your child is ill or not going to be at school, please call the toll-free number above so that the school is informed of the absence. Other options you can take to mark your child as absent would be to go to your child’s PowerSchool account https://sishrsb,ednet.ns.ca/public or download the PowerSchool app.

  1. Get Involved in Our School Community – SAC & PTA

We value the strong partnership between home and school, and we want to share some ways you can get involved in shaping and supporting our school community. Two important groups that help guide and support our work are the School Advisory Council (SAC) and the Parent Teacher Association (PTA).

School Advisory Council (SAC)

  • The SAC is made up of parents, staff, and community members.
  • Its role is to provide advice on school policies, priorities, and the overall learning environment.
  • Diversity within the SAC helps ensure we have as many perspectives and voices from our school community included in these conversations.
  • SAC meetings give families a voice in important discussions that shape our school’s direction.

Parent Teacher Association (PTA)

  • The PTA works to strengthen the connection between families and the school.
  • This group organizes events, fundraisers, and activities that enrich the student experience.
  • Being part of the PTA is a great way to meet other families and directly support our students.

Upcoming Meetings

  • SAC Meeting: Tuesday, September 24, 6:00–7:00 PM
  • PTA Meeting: Tuesday, September 24, 7:00–8:00 PM
  • Both meetings will be held in the school library.

We would love to see more parents and guardians join these groups. Your input, ideas, and support make a real difference in creating the best possible school experience for all students.

If you are interested in learning more or getting involved, please contact the school office, and we will connect you with the SAC and PTA chairs.

Thank you for considering this opportunity to be part of our school community in such a meaningful way.

  1. Emergency Drills: As part of our routine emergency drills, our school will practicing  lockdown drill next week.  Please see the attached letter for more information.

  1. Pink Shirt Day: On Thursday, September 11th, our school will be recognizing Pink Shirt Day. This day began as a movement in Canada to stand up against bullying and has grown into an international symbol of promoting kindness, respect, and inclusion.

  1. Demographics Update: yesterday, an email regarding the Demographic Updates Form was sent out to families. This form should be updated by every family to ensure all information about your child is current, including contacts, medical information, consents and demographics. Even if there are no anticipated changes, please review this information and submit the form. This information will then be reviewed by the school before the updates are finalized. This deadline to submit the form is October 6, 2025

  1. Energy Drinks: We ask that no energy drinks are sent to school with students.  This includes ice caps and Monster, Red Bull etc

Thank you for your continued support,

Rachael Webster, Abby Ferguson and Andrew Stone
