Get Involved – SAC
Our first SAC meeting of the year has taken place, and we sent out an email seeking nominations for one open parent position. Nominations were accepted from September 25–October 6, and we are pleased to share that two parents have been nominated.
Voting will take place October 14–16 via email, with more information to follow. The new parent member will be announced on October 17.
Thank You for Supporting Punctuality
We sincerely thank families for ensuring students arrive on time. Our number of late arrivals has decreased! We ask for your continued support, especially as the weather becomes colder, rainy, or snowy. Allowing extra travel time in the mornings helps minimize classroom interruptions and ensures students start the day ready to learn.
Lunch Time Reminder
Students have ½ hour to eat lunch, which is sufficient time for most students. We understand some students may take longer due to social interactions in class, and when possible, uneaten food is sent home. Due to supervision needs, students are not able to stay beyond the allotted lunch period to finish eating.
Feed Nova Scotia Food Drive
Park West is excited to launch our Food Drive in support of Feed Nova Scotia, running October 1–9. This is a wonderful opportunity for our school community to make a positive impact.
Most Needed Items:
- Cereal
- Pasta and pasta sauce
- Peanut butter
- Canned meat, fish, or beans
- Canned vegetables and fruit
- Rice
- Baby food and formula
We invite all students and staff to contribute if they are able. Every donation, big or small, makes a difference. Thank you for encouraging your students to participate!
Terry Fox School Run, Walk and Wheel – October 10
We are thrilled to announce that Park West will participate in the annual Terry Fox School Run, Walk and Wheel on October 10. This is a meaningful tradition that teaches students about courage, perseverance, and making a difference in their community.
Students are encouraged to bring a toonie for Terry or any donation amount. Donations can be made in the following ways:
- Online: Visit our school’s Terry Fox fundraising page: Park West Terry Fox Page
- Terry Fox School App: Set up a personal page at Crowdchange, then download the app from the App Store or Google Play
- Cash Donations: Students can bring money to their classroom teacher
All proceeds go directly to the Terry Fox Foundation, supporting life-saving cancer research. By participating, our students help keep Terry Fox’s dream alive and work toward a world without cancer.
October is Mi'kmaq History Month
October is Mi'kmaq History Month, a time to celebrate and recognize the rich culture, history, and contributions of the Mi'kmaq people. Please join us in offering our respect, awareness and appreciation for the Mi'kmaq community and their enduring legacy.
