Open House / Curriculum Night
We are so excited to welcome you to our Open House / Curriculum Night on Wednesday, September 3rd, from 6:00–7:00 p.m.
This evening is an opportunity for families to:
- Meet your child’s teacher(s)
- Visit the classroom
- Receive information about the year ahead
Please note that teachers will not be holding individual conversations about students during the Open House.
Next week we will send a school map and information on which doors students will use for their class. We encourage families to bring school supplies with them that evening to help lighten the load on the first day of school. This will also allow students to begin their regular arrival and dismissal routines right from the start.
Teachers will be reaching out before Wednesday to introduce themselves.
We look forward to seeing you there!
First day of School:
All classes have assigned entry/exit doors for arriving and departing school for ease of entry with such a large number of students. The assigned doors as well as a map of the school is attached.
Please note that the first 2 days for primary students will be considered orientation and class lists will be finalized on Friday the 5th.
Please do not request class or teacher changes. While enrollment continues to fluctuate, we may need to reconfigure depending on our numbers in the next few weeks.
We strongly suggest for parents to have their child come to school on the first day in the manner they will continue for the year so as to start with the routine right from day one.
Allergies:
We strive to be a peanut/nut and scent aware school. It is imperative that nuts and products containing nuts not be brought into our school as numerous students and staff have life threatening allergies. We are a scent free school. Students wearing scented products may be sent home to change. Please do not send in scented products for use after physed classes.
Cell Phones:
Last school year, a new cell phone directive from the Province was put in place. For elementary and junior high schools, any students coming to school with a cell phone need to have it turned off as soon as they arrive at school. The phone is to remain turned off and in the student backpack or locker until after dismissal at the end of the day. Jr. High students are permitted to responsibly use their cell phones at lunch time only. Any important messages that students need to receive during school are to be called into the office. We thank you for your cooperation.
Toys:
Students are requested to leave toys at home. If it’s not a tool for learning, students are strongly encouraged to leave it at home. This includes Pokemon cards. The school is not responsible for any lost, stolen or damaged items brought from home. Please keep these items at home.
Picking Students up early:
If you are picking your child up early for an appointment, we would appreciate you doing so before 1:45pm. After 1:45pm we are starting to get class instruction complete and prepare for dismissal. We do not like interrupting classes, and it can be difficult to reach classes that are already in the hallway getting packed and dressed to go home. Your help with this would be greatly appreciated.
Important Parking & Driveway Information
For the safety of our students and due to limited parking, the Park West driveway and parking lot are not accessible to families during arrival and dismissal times.
If you are driving your child to school, please park on the street and walk them up to the school. The same process applies at dismissal time.
If you need to drop off or pick up your child during the school day (for example, after an appointment), you may access the parking lot area outside of arrival and dismissal times.
We greatly appreciate your cooperation in helping us keep our students safe
School Lunch:
Our school is part of the Provincial School Lunch Program. The Nova Scotia School Lunch Program is a provincial lunch program that offers public school students across Nova Scotia nutritious lunch every school day. Ordering will open on Friday mornings and close on Wednesday at noon. The first day of school lunches has yet to be determined. We will share this date as soon as it becomes available. In the meantime, please ensure you send your child with food from home.
Families can order hot lunches through the following site: nslunch.ca
Lunch for everyone is from 11:15-12:15. Within the first week of school, lunch permission forms will be sent home to indicate whether your child has permission to leave at lunch.
We are off to a great start to a magnificent year!
